Being a mentee for the last year has been a wonderful and rigorous boost to my training knowledge and skills. As I come to end of my year on the IMDT mentorship I feel very grateful for all it has provided for me. As someone who was making a complete change into the dog sector, I was finding the transition rather overwhelming. Having the IMDT team there to guide and encourage me has been invaluable. I worked most closely with Tania who is an excellent trainer, full of ideas on how to teach different dog behaviours and how to get up and running in a new business. Having her to walk beside me this year has been life changing! I am very pleased to have completed this mentorship and strongly recommend it.

I was particularly attracted to the IMDT mentorship programme because it is mainly 1-2-1 mentoring which is tailored to my specific development objectives. For me, I wanted to learn how to teach the basics better, and improve my skills and knowledge so that I could take on more challenging behavioural cases. As my objectives were focussed on becoming a better trainer, I was assigned to work with Alun, one of IMDT’s super experienced trainers and behaviourists. In our weekly meetings, we mostly discussed cases that I was currently working on - working in the context of real cases is more aligned to my preferred learning style. Over the course of the year, we covered a huge range of training and behavioural topics - I have learned so much and applied that learning in so many other cases. I absolutely achieved my objectives through this mentorship - my teaching of the basics is more proficient and I’m so much more confident in taking on more complex behavioural cases.

Just completed my 12 months mentorship program with the IMDT. This course is fully recommended weekly zoom sessions with my mentor monthly group zoom sessions, discussing whatever I need at that time. We have worked on behaviour advice with current cases, class set up and more fun exercises, where and when to increase and decrease criteria on exercsies, teaching owners and being able to give them realistic exercises for their dog, workshops and lots more. I have learnt so much over these 12 months even after the years I have been studying, shadowing trainers and eventually going out on my own. With dog training you never stop learning and never stop studying. Thank you to the for all the help and being there for me.

After passing my assessment I decided to join the IMDT training mentorship to support me in growing my business and expanding my knowledge.It was a great decision. One of the benefits of the programme is having the option of weekly 121 calls with a mentor to discuss anything you need to whether it be specific cases or business development etc.This extra support really helped me to push out of my comfort zone in terms of the type of work I was taking on - I have learnt so much and am more confident as a result.

The IMDT training mentorship is a must for anyone that has passed their IMDT assessment and starting up as a newly qualified trainer.  It's a bit like passing your driving test; you are competent to be on the road, but you aren't yet a driver!  The learning is only just beginning.   The mentorship felt like a lifeline.  After the initial euphoria of being offered IMDT membership, I was suffering with a bit of imposter syndrome.  What do I do now?  The mentorship meant I felt fully supported and it gave me confidence to go forward in achieving my dream.  Any questions I had were answered quickly and comprehensively.  The zoom forums were great, not only providing vital information on training issues and business queries but in seeing how other members deal with situations I had not even thought about.   Don't think about it, just do it, you won't regret it.
