Wow - I am so thrilled to have passed this course! The content is informative, it challenges knowledge and builds on foundations to a level of expertise which is beyond any course I've done to date. A big emphasis on current and research based facts - debunking myths and working on case studies has grown my academic and practical learning exponentially over the last few months. I feel so much more informed about Learning, Motivation and Reinforcement in canines and how that influences training, behaviour and how fear, frustration and anxiety states can present in unexpected ways. A real eye opener. The course is well written, academic yet practical, worthwhile and satisfying to participate in and the tutors are very supportive and patient.
A truly excellent course! I've learnt so much about dog behaviour, breed traits and learning theory, and how to apply the knowledge to real life cases. The units are interesting and thought-provoking, and the tutors are very supportive.

To all considering paying for this course I can confirm that this course was not only fun but all interactions with the lovely Alison on the telephone and all the help I received from the tutors was so polite and professional. I have never done a course like this before so things like referencing my work was something I was very unsure of, however the introduction to the course and all the helpful documents that were provided make it a lot easier for someone that has never experienced this before. I like to be as near to 100% confident in what I'm doing and so even when I decided to email the tutors to confirm these simple things that had been previously covered in the Introduction, the tutors were still very happy to help. Once I settled in with this I was away and enjoying every part of this course to the point where I could not wait to send in my first unit to learn more and discover what unit 2 would contain.I would recommend to all the LEARNING THEORY AND PREDATORY MOTOR PATTERNS webinars as I used these a lot during this course.I have also completed the 2 day and 4 day courses that are offered in the build up to completing my Assessment and one thing that I will say about the 6 months correspondence course is that I feel it has given me an even greater understanding of things like the benefits of learning about puppy development and how this can impact a dogs life and even more importantly what effects this may have on how we chose to teach. For me this course is a must because I need to know that the training methods I am going to use in the future are always going to improve the lives of dogs and their owners. I feel more confident in my own ability's having learnt all that this course has to offer.For anyone taking this course please be confident in reaching out to the tutors as they made me feel that there was no such thing as a stupid question and I spent unnecessary time torturing myself before finally gathering up the courage to use the support available to me. Such a great course. I have learnt so much and it has changed my way of thinking when working with the dogs. I won't lie the academic side of things reduced me to tears on many occasions as I haven't used word or google scholar before but for anyone who is on the fence about whether to do this or not, DO IT! As hard as it sometimes was, coming out of the other side with the knowledge I now have and the confidence it has given me, along with a thirst to keep learning I cannot recommend this course enough. Shout out to the most patient tutors too for all their help, you were so understanding of my lack of I.T skills.
This course has been well-structured throughout, and tutors have been responsive and supportive throughout. The course was informative, challenging and demanding and I am over the moon that I decided to give it a go.
An enjoyable and interesting course and I learned a lot of new things, but also built on my existing knowledge. Challenging at times but it was great to have the opportunity to ask the tutor for some feedback if a question had me "stumped". I am applying the things I learned into my interaction with dogs and their caregivers and it is has certainly been of great benefit in this respect. Thanks IMDT!
The course was challenging and interesting. The tutors provided helpful feedback that sparked many "aha" moments. The knowledge gained was valuable, and earning the qualification was a proud achievement. Exploring learning theory has boosted my confidence in offering advice on dog behaviour, especially after witnessing positive changes in my own dog's motivation and behaviour.
Passing this course means so much to me, it has been an emotional, challenging and inspiring journey. I have learnt so much, not only in knowledge, but also in my own abilities. Very good course with helpful and quick guidance from the tutors, I am relatively new to the world of dog training so was challenging at times for me but I gained so much knowledge and understanding. Highly recommend
I hesitated to sign up to this course, been over 30 years out of education and wasn't sure if I was going to be out of depth, but I am so glad I did it. Have learned so much with the great guidance and support from the Tutors. It's been such an eye opener on understanding how dogs learn and why my own dog reacts the way he does. This has complemented the other courses I have done with the IMDT and thoroughly recommend to anyone with the curiosity to learn more. Can not recommend this course enough, a little daunting at first when you haven't studied for a long time but, you soon get into it again. Learnt so much on this course and the tutor support was fantastic.
Great course. It really helped me as a trainer. They help you really well and if you need more time or fail a unit they give you time and enough chances to get it right.
This course has exceeded my expectations..when I first opened it, I thought wow, I am way above my head but with guidance, lots of reading and fact finding. I was surprised , it all came together! I’m a 53 year old woman, who hasn’t been to school, or even picked up a pen in a long time. I started the course initially to improve my knowledge for my licenced home boarding, although it’s been tough. i actually think every dog professional would benefit from this course.
Although a lot of feelings of guilt have come up from this Unit 3, that I may of been doing things wrong with my dog i.e. conditioning, it is now clearer why my reactive dog may be reacting the way he is – which I was hoping to learn from this course! Every owner should do this Learning, Motivation and Reinforcement course; if only I knew everything I’ve learned from this course 5 years ago when I got my dog!

This course has given me the confidence to proceed with that journey and know that I have a good understanding that I can pass on to other dog owners and work professionals. I have just completed this course which I began during June 2022. I took this on 32 years after writing any sort of significant work for my degree to extend my knowledge in my new found love and work as a dog trainer. It has not disappointed. It has complemented my other dog training learning well, has made me think a lot, challenged me at times but the support and assistance from the tutors is invaluable. I would highly recommend this course for any dog professional or even dog owner. The knowledge I have gained was so worth it and it felt very rewarding to earn the qualification at the end. I have just completed this course and am delighted. It's been quite a challenge, there's lots of reading and research required, and with lots of great tutor feedback I managed to get there. It's already opened my mind to better understand and advocate for our own dogs, our homeboarding guests and walking clients. We're part of a small team, and my colleagues are IMDT trainers, having set up puppy and adult dogs' classes in this last 18 months, which I sometimes assist with. I found this course really challenging as I suffered a bereavement whilst doing it. The tutors were amazing and supported me, giving me as much time as I needed. I can't believe how much I learned from it - a lot of it from the tutor feedback. I would definitely recommend it to anyone toying with the idea. It was a lot of hard work but really worth it.
I have learnt a lot on this course, and it is definitely useful if you are looking to work with dogs.

This course really changed my life, I went from really struggling and hating my job to getting a qualification and shadowing amazing trainers and opening my own business.I really enjoyed how each units opens up a door to more knowledge and research on dog behaviour, then it is all summed up in Unit 4.If you are thinking about booking it, just do it!

This was a challenging course but it was highly rewarding. There was quite a bit of research and reading but there was excellent support from Dave and Lin. It was so interesting to gain a thorough understanding of the science behind how dogs think. I highly recommend this course.

An excellent correspondent course covering some interesting topics with regards to how dogs learn. The course had very efficient tutor support when needed. Feedback was always constructive and helpful. I would recommend this course as an excellent foundation into studying dog behaviour and learning.
I have studied to post graduate level, but found this course really demanding! Which made it all the more valuable to me as I felt it represented a lot of study and learning. This is not a 'couple of hours buy it on the internet' qualification, but one that you really have to work for. Well worth it!
This is an excellent course, both in its content and delivery. I would encourage anybody thinking about it to just do it ! The knowledge you will gain is sure to greatly improve your understanding and relationship with our canine friends.
Excellent content and fabulous guidance in the marking. Seemed a bit daunting in the first unit as i had no clue about referencing points, but advice is quickly on hand and after that it was very straightforward and very easy to complete the work load, well within the given time frame. i'm self employed and work very long hours, but the course was never a chore at the end of a long day, i loved the learning, so if you are in two minds, don't be , you will look forward to the opportunity of gaining knowledge.

This is a fantastic course for anyone wanting to refresh their ideas or for those who are relatively new to dog training.The course was really enjoyable and set at a manageable pace for those that need to work it around other jobs.I found this course really useful for improving my content when teaching classes and during my 1-2-1 sessions. I now feel much more confident about any advice and help that I give to my puppy owners.I would highly recommend this course.

I needed to balance a number of challenges during the pandemic and found my tutors to be both empathetic and supportive which motivated me to keep pressing on. An excellent course with good back up with help when needed.
I've just finished the course and I've enjoyed it so much. It's well balanced and gives a great understanding of the theory behind dog learning, motivation and reinforcement. Each module is very clear and concise. Tutors are available if needed but the course notes set out expectations and rules of submission right at the start. The admin staff are amazing and really put you at ease if you have any problems or questions. Really interesting and an excellent grounding for future dog trainers or seasoned dog trainers who want to brush up their theory.

I have just received my final email to say I have passed, it’s been a very rewarding, information loaded six months. Don’t be fooled into thinking this will be an easy course like so many on offer, It requires dedication and you must be prepared to put the time into your learning. But what you’ll get back in return is well worth the time and effort. Dave and Lin are available to help and give you guidance whenever you need it, the Facebook support group is really good too. I’ve come away feeling confident in my ability to offer some behaviour advice alongside training and have signed up to level four. Thanks for all the support!

I started this course in early 2020 and having just completed it I cannot recommend it highly enough. The support from the tutors is excellent; you get brilliant feedback following each unit to help you improve each time, and they're always prompt and thorough with answering questions. The course content is the right level of challenging to force you to research thoroughly so you learn so much along the way. I hadn't studied in about 20 years and got so much from learning again. If you're thinking about doing this, think no more and do it!
It's hard to put into words just what a tremendous course this is. Beginning with an overview of domestication, it takes students on a tour of learning theory, asking them to reflect on what motivates dogs to do what they do, what influences might have shaped their learning and behaviour, and how students might work with dogs of varied learning histories in diverse of environments. The learning materials are lively and engaging, very well scaffolded so that each unit builds on the last. The assessment is very well designed to encourage and reward independent research, with case studies to be explored in order to allow the student to apply their learning in a more concrete way. I entered this course knowing very little, and I'm leaving with such a hunger to keep learning, researching, and studying. I can't thank you enough.

Highly recommend this course, whether you're interested in becoming a dog trainer or just want to understand more about dog behaviour. You'll learn about dog behaviour from the history of domestication up to specific behavioural problems we see today. The content of the course is well thought out and is highly accessible to anyone, regardless of how much studying you've done before. Fab Course. I left school nearly 20years ago and was worried I would struggle re-starting studying. I needn’t have worried. There’s a support group on Facebook plus the tutors are always quick to reply to you. The course is well paced and you get given suggested reading to get you started. Although if you’re anything like me you’ll end up buying heaps more books. I’m already looking toward completing other courses and continuing my IMDT journey
The course has been amazing and I’ve learnt so much. It has really helped me to understand our rescue Daisy who came to us last year with a number of behavioural challenges which have been improved greatly with the help of this course, she is a much happier dog compared to this time last year.The content is varied and the tutor is on hand to help whenever you need guidance. Great course - would definitely recommend :)
I came into dog training late in my life, have always lived with dogs and recognise that I did things then in a way I wouldn't do now, I had done some courses in the past. This course has helped me to consolidate the odd bits of information I had gained here and there and has explained in detail the how and the why of dogs behaviour and teaching dogs. It takes some time and studying on the student's part, and doesn't always appear easy but it does make you think about what you are doing. Lots of support from the tutors available, well structured units, even though I found each one frightening initially! If you are prepared to put in the effort it is worthwhile doing.
This course was recommended to me by a professional that worked with dogs all his life. And I have to say I was right to follow his advice. It touches all most important matters and gives you a very good understanding of dog's behaviour. Of course it's up to the student to do his researches and to put commitment. But it's really worthy. Tutors are lovely and happy to answer to any question at anytime. Lots of flexibility, very manageable if you're working.

It was with trepidation I embarked on this course as my only experience is with my own dogs and formal study has evaded me for many years. Suffice to say I am now hooked. After finding my feet on the first unit I found every aspect fascinating and just wanted to learn more. Dog sports is my thing and this course really gives you an insight to help develop the way you train as well as what the dog is actually learning. I am now well and truly hooked and moving onto level 4. If you are thinking about this course do it.
I thoroughly enjoyed completing this course, it was hard work and I was challenged with the amount of detail that was needed but I’ve learnt loads. There is a lot of work involved especially with the reading that is recommended but it’s worth it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course and felt I learnt a lot as regards how dogs learn and why we teach a certain way to help them learn. It definitely gave me a better knowledge base for my 4 Day Practical and massively helped with my Membership Assessment, particularly the theory section. Would recommend.
5 stars all the way!From the start I had amazing support and feedback while working through this course.An extremely well written and planned course to guide you through what's needed. Going into depths that other courses I've done just haven't.I learnt more during this 6 month course than I did with other correspondence courses as the IMDT clearly want you to learn, grow and improve where others just basically pass you for what I now see as mediocre assignments.The assignments were well suited to the level, completely achievable for a beginner but with all the added extras for those that have knowledge but want more to geek out on.I cannot wait to get my geek on some more with level 4! This course is a must for anyone in the industry as well as pet owners that want to understand their dog even more.Huge thanks to Dave and Lin for their priceless help and advice though the course, see you at Level 4.

When I started this course I knew nothing about the science of dog training. Now I have a very good idea about the fundamentals and how much more there is to learn. Really enjoyed all the different components of the course and feel much more confident about my knowledge, thanks to the tutor support and having applied myself to the questions within each unit. This is a very interesting course and each unit helps you further your knowledge and examine our dogs history, learning, behaviour, motivation along with how 'humans' interactions can influence dogs behaviour. There is alot of reading and research which is very rewarding especially when you find the answers/solutions to your own questions. Great course especially if you think you already have a good understanding. I found the course provided challenges to my existing knowledge clearly showing just how much there is to learn with a few gaps evident. The final module testing your knowledge with some great case studies.
I really enjoyed this course, I thought it was really interesting and thorough. Dave’s feedback on each module was great and the IMDT team are always more than happy to help with any queries you have a long the way. I would highly recommend this course.
This is definitely worth doing if you are interested in dog behaviour and/or wish a career as a behaviourist. It requires a lot of reading and research but if you are interested in the subject then this will be an enjoyable part of it. The Tutors give very good, clear feedback and point you in the right direction if you aren't on track. I was really chuffed to have passed it and I am now looking to move onto the Level 4.
I really enjoyed this course, have learnt so much and now just want to learn more. It's really got me thinking about how I interact with my own dog. I feel it's set good groundwork for my progression as a dog trainer and has built up my confidence for my upcoming IMDT assessment. The tutors are great! I highly recommend this course.
A fantastic course , this course really makes you think about how we train and communicate with our canines and gets the brain working. The Tutors are amazing :-)
I have just completed this course and have to say I am amazed at the sheer volume of information this has packed into my head. It has definitely solidified my original aims of becoming a behaviourist. This course really tests your research skills, existing knowledge of learning theory as well as giving you real life cases studies to pour over. Some of them kept me up at night I was so obsessed with finding out the answers. I highly recommend the tutors and David's knowledge literally boggles my mind. I will definitely be continuing with the other correspondence courses and going to one of his seminars as soon as I possibly can. Thank you for the positive learning experience and for giving me confidence to go for my dreams xxxx
This course is excellent, I thoroughly recommend it. It's format gives you the essential start into understanding dogs, how they evolved and most importantly how they learn. It is challenging, and pushes you to expand your reading which leaves you wanting to learn more and more. You look back at what you knew at the beginning and where you are at the end and can hardly believe you have absorbed all that information. The feedback is very helpful, and the ongoing support really good. I so enjoyed the course and have now moved onto Level IV......
I learnt lots doing this course. I thought I wanted to start with the Level 4 having studied to degree equivalent level previously but am really glad I did this one first and will probably do the other 6 month course too. It was challenging, interesting and the feedback really helpful and constructive
I've learnt so much from doing this course, it really got me thinking, I researched so much and feel that I have come away with so much knowledge which will help me towards my assessment.
I’m a bit sad that I've completed the LMR correspondence course, as I've enjoyed it so much! I've learned LOADS, and loved every minute of it. Dave is a great tutor, a very knowledgable man and gives great feedback to each unit which has given me further research each time to brush up on certain aspects. The learning from this course will help me so much with my dog training business in the future and I plan to continue my learning with IMDT, either with the 12 month correspondence course or via the practical behaviour courses over the next year. I would recommend this course to anyone who works with dogs and would like to gain more knowledge and enhance their skills.Thanks IMDT!

Really great course to put your knowledge to the test and do lots of research. Doing this course has given me the confidence to strive and become a dog trainer!
I found this course challenged everything I thought I knew and made me look at everything in a totally and much better way. I loved doing the research and ended up finding some very interesting articles. I would recommend this course to anyone looking to take their first steps into the industry as a fantastic foundation. This was a very interesting and challenging course, studying the foundations of how dogs learn. Then going on to study this with different breeds, finishing with applying the knowledge to fixing problems in different case studies. Helped along by the feedback received from my tutor after each section was completed. The Tutor was also available to clarify or give advice along the way. A very worthwhile use of my limited spare time. Thanks IMDT.
This is an excellent course. it provides a solid foundation in understanding how dogs develop and learn. The tutor gives really helpful feedback. I learnt a lot and am much more confident in my understanding.
